FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Montessori Preschool & Childcare Program
Our Montessori childcare center accepts children beginning at 5 weeks of age. We are licensed to care for children from infancy through 13 years old, with programs available through 5th grade. Our classrooms are carefully designed to support each stage of early childhood development in a nurturing, hands-on learning environment.
Yes. Montessori classrooms provide a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where shy children can build confidence naturally. Through hands-on activities, consistent routines, and mixed-age classrooms, children gradually develop social skills, independence, and comfort interacting with peers. Because children typically remain with the same teacher for at least two years, they build strong relationships and a sense of emotional security that helps them feel confident and engaged in the classroom.
Children entering our Infant and Toddler childcare programs do not need to be potty trained. However, children entering our Pre-K Montessori preschool classroom are expected to be potty trained before enrollment.
Our low teacher-to-child ratios help create a safe, nurturing, and individualized learning experience for every child.
Infants (0–18 months): 1:4
Toddlers (18 months–2.5 years): 1:6
Toddlers (2.5–3 years): 1:10
Pre-K Montessori Classroom (4–5 years): 1:12
Low classroom ratios allow our teachers to provide individualized attention while supporting each child’s academic, emotional, social, and developmental growth.
No, we do not provide meals for children. Families send all meals, snacks, and water from home each day. Our licensed Montessori childcare center and preschool is a completely nut-free facility to help provide a safe and healthy learning environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
Our Montessori preschool, daycare, and early learning childcare center is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Parents are requested to pick up children by 6:00 PM. We are closed on weekends and major holidays. School calendars, closure dates, and program information are available on our website.
Montessori discipline focuses on helping children develop independence, self-regulation, responsibility, problem-solving skills, and respect for others. Our Montessori classrooms are carefully prepared to support each child’s developmental stage through purposeful hands-on learning and individualized instruction.
Children receive lessons one-on-one or in small groups and become familiar with classroom routines through consistency, gentle guidance, and positive reinforcement. Teachers carefully observe each child and provide individualized support based on developmental needs and interests.
If a child is struggling with focus or engagement, the teacher may gently redirect the child toward another meaningful activity that better supports the child’s learning style and emotional needs. The Montessori environment encourages children to make thoughtful choices, work independently, build concentration, and develop intrinsic motivation.
Our Montessori preschool curriculum includes five open-access learning areas:
• Practical Life
• Sensorial
• Language & Early Literacy
• Math & STEM Learning
• Cultural Studies & Science Exploration
Because children are free to choose meaningful work after receiving lessons, they naturally develop confidence, self-discipline, independence, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning. Our Montessori preschool program also helps support kindergarten readiness, social-emotional development, and critical thinking skills.
Infants follow their own individualized nap schedules based on developmental needs and family routines.
Younger toddlers nap after lunch and diapering. Older toddlers typically participate in outdoor play, gross motor activities, or indoor music and movement experiences after lunch, followed by a one-hour rest period.
Children ages 3½ years and older generally do not participate in nap time. Instead, older preschool children may engage in quiet learning activities, reading, or hands-on Montessori work.
Children between the ages of 7 months and 2½ years may experience separation anxiety when starting daycare, preschool, or childcare for the first time. Our nurturing Montessori teachers work closely with families to help children transition smoothly into the classroom environment.
We often recommend beginning with shorter preschool or daycare hours, such as 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, five days a week. This gradual transition helps children build trust with teachers, become comfortable with classroom routines, and develop emotional security within the learning environment.
Our experience has shown that once children establish consistent routines and relationships, most separation anxiety significantly improves within approximately three weeks. Our nurturing Montessori early childhood program helps children develop confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and social skills in a safe and supportive environment.
We proudly serve families in Avenel, Woodbridge, Colonia, Rahway, Iselin, and surrounding New Jersey communities seeking quality Montessori preschool and childcare programs near the Avenel Train Station.
At My World Child Care Center and Montessori, our early childhood classroom serves children ages 3–5 years with a teacher-to-child ratio of approximately 1:10. This carefully balanced classroom size allows teachers to truly know each child, understand their individual learning style, and provide personalized guidance throughout the day.
Our Montessori preschool environment fosters a family-like community where children learn alongside the same teachers and classmates for multiple years. These long-term relationships help children develop trust, confidence, strong social skills, and a sense of belonging. Teachers are able to observe each child's academic, emotional, and social development and tailor lessons to support their growth and kindergarten readiness.
A well-balanced teacher-to-child ratio also encourages children to become independent problem-solvers. Rather than relying solely on adults, children learn to follow classroom routines, take responsibility for their environment, communicate respectfully, and resolve conflicts through discussion and cooperation. These valuable life skills help prepare children for success in school and beyond.
At My World Child Care Center and Montessori, we believe that meaningful relationships, individualized attention, and a thoughtfully prepared learning environment are essential components of high-quality early childhood education.
